A couple of weeks ago Suzanna came home and said that she had to come up with an invention for a school project. We threw around a few ideas and she settled on mine about creating a stand that could be put inside a vase so that you could put in a potted, living plant instead of cut flowers that will wilt and dry up.
Part of the project was to create a logo, description, explanation and purpose for the invention. She was pretty excited about hers because most of her classmates were doing things like robots but hers was more practical.
On Sunday afternoon, we spent two hours going around Home Depot trying to figure out how we would create this plant stand that goes inside the vase. I tried to help her figure it out as much as possible or if I had an idea get her to come up with it by asking her questions to guide her thinking.
After a couple hours, we bought a couple items and a small potted plant. We went home (going through Wendy's drive-through for a chocolate frosty) and we put our invention together. The concept was good but the outcome could have been better if we had bought different materials. If it had truly needed to be fully functional, I would have gone back to Home Depot for better materials.
Anyway, Suzanna and I had a great time putting it together and the final
outcome looked pretty nice. It's currently at school and she can't wait
until Thursday when the entire school is going to look at all their
inventions. She's very excited about hers.
